Raymond Carver

Raymond Carver, born on May 25, 1938, in Clatskanie, Oregon, was an influential American short story writer and poet. Raised in a poor family, Carver's early life was marked by financial struggles and his parents' turbulent relationship. Despite the challenging circumstances, Carver showed a talent for writing from a young age, a passion that would eventually lead him to become one of the most celebrated writers of his generation.

After graduating from Yakima High School in Washington, Carver attended what is now Humboldt State University before transferring to Chico State College to study English. However, financial constraints forced him to drop out before completing his degree. Carver's breakthrough came in 1960 when two of his poems were published in the magazine "Concrete". Tragically, Carver's life was cut short when he succumbed to lung cancer on August 2, 1988, at the age of 50.
