The Conformist

"The Conformist" is a political drama directed by Bernardo Bertolucci set in Italy during the fascist rule of Benito Mussolini. The story follows Marcello Clerici, a young man with a troubled past who becomes a spy for the fascist government in order to fit in and conform to societal norms, while struggling with his own inner conflicts and insecurities. As Marcello carries out his mission to assassinate his former professor, he is forced to confront his own beliefs, desires, and the consequences of his choices.
