Aaliyah Dana Haughton, known mononymously as Aaliyah, was an American singer, actress, and model born on January 16, 1979, in Brooklyn, New York, and raised in Detroit, Michigan. She first gained recognition at the age of 10, when she appeared on the television show "Star Search" and performed in concert alongside Gladys Knight. In 1994, at the age of 15, Aaliyah catapulted to fame with her debut album "Age Ain't Nothing but a Number," produced by R. Kelly. Her smooth voice and innovative blend of R&B with hip-hop influences made her a key figure in the development of the late '90s R&B sound. Aaliyah's follow-up albums, "One in a Million" (1996) and the self-titled "Aaliyah" (2001), solidified her position as a leading artist in the music industry, with hits like "Try Again" and "Are You That Somebody?" Beyond music, Aaliyah made her mark in film, starring in "Romeo Must Die" and "Queen of the Damned." Her life was tragically cut short at the age of 22 in a plane crash on August 25, 2001, in the Bahamas. Aaliyah's legacy endures through her influential music and contributions to entertainment.
